Options & Pricing

Your options are as follows. National Grid’s Basic Service prices are below for comparison:

  • If you want the lowest-priced option and you do not want any additional renewable energy, choose Power Choice Standard, which is the default program offering. All new National Grid Basic Service customers in Southborough will be automatically enrolled in Power Choice Standard, unless they choose Power Choice Green or opt out.
  • If you want 100% renewable energy, choose Power Choice Green.

Electricity supplier: If you participate in Southborough Community Power Choice, you will see First Point Power listed on your National Grid electricity bill as your electricity supplier. See an example National Grid bill.

Power Choice Standard meets this minimum requirement. Power Choice Green exceeds this requirement. The program’s electricity supplier is required to provide an energy mix disclosure label that offers details about all of the sources of electricity provided. RENEWABLE ENERGY CERTIFICATES

The Southborough Community Power Choice program purchases renewable energy certificates, or RECs, to integrate renewable energy into the Power Choice Green option. In general, RECs are used to determine the environmental content of electricity. Each REC represents proof that 1 megawatt-hour of electricity was generated by a renewable energy resource. For more information about RECs, visit this page and scroll down.
