Program prices and options

In November 2025, the Chelmsford Choice prices and program options will change as a new electricity supply contract goes into effect. All participants will see lower prices. No action is required from current program participants to receive the lower prices. However, participants are free to change their program option before the new prices go into effect.

In addition:

  • The Basic option will remain the default program offering. It will be renamed Basic Green and will provide an additional 20% of your electricity from renewable sources, balancing sustainability with affordability. Most participants are enrolled in Basic and will receive the Basic Green price under the new contract.
  • Participants in the Greener option will be moved to the Basic Green option under the new contract.
  • An Economy option is available by request.

As a participant in Chelmsford Choice, your electricity supplier will be Dynegy until November, changing to Direct Energy with your November 2025 meter read. If you are eligible for a low-income discount or fuel assistance, you continue to receive that benefit as a participant in Chelmsford Choice. If you have National Grid’s Budget Plan, it continues to apply to your whole bill.

Compare to National Grid

Chelmsford Choice offers long-term prices, but National Grid’s prices change seasonally. It is normal for Chelmsford’s prices to be lower than National Grid sometimes and higher at other times. The goal of Chelmsford Choice is to provide savings when compared with the average of National Grid’s changing prices.
