New Winter 2025 Heat Pump Rate

Starting this winter, all three Massachusetts electric utilities will offer discounted delivery rates to customers who use heat pumps to heat all or part of their homes. According to the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities, the discounted rates will save eligible customers an average of $540 over the heating season. The new rate will impact only the delivery part of the electric bill for winter months. The winter months have been designated as November – April.

Yes. The heat pump rate will impact the delivery charges on the bill. Acton Power Choice impacts the supply charge on the bill. Participants in Acton Power Choice can benefit from both the heat pump rate and Acton Power Choice at the same time.

Do I need to use a heat pump to heat my whole house in order to get the heat pump rate?

No. The heat pump rate will apply for customers using a heat pump to heat all or part of their homes.

How do I get the new heat pump rate?

To claim the discount, contact Eversource before November 1, 2025. If you installed your heat pumps through MassSave, you should be enrolled in the discount automatically, but we recommend you contact Eversource to confirm.

Will heat pump rates received in the winter cause delivery charges to increase during other parts of the year to balance the discount?

No. The winter heat pump rate will not impact delivery charges in other parts of the year.

Will the discount for heat pump customers cause rates to increase for other customers to balance the discount?

No. The discounted heat pump rates will not cause rates for other customers to increase.
