Options & Pricing

The Cambridge Community Electricity Program offers two options:

  • Opt up to the 100% Green Plus option to receive all of your electricity from renewable energy sources like the sun and the wind.
  • If you do not opt up to 100% Green Plus, you will be enrolled in Standard Green, which is the default program offering.

Participants in both 100% Green Plus and Standard Green support the development of a new solar energy project in Cambridge through a small $0.002/kWh charge. All participants receive renewable electricity from this project.

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts requires that all electricity supply products include a minimum of 59.2% from renewable or clean energy resources in 2023. Standard Green meets the minimum requirement. The 100% Green Plus option exceeds this requirement.

Electricity supplier: If you participate in the Cambridge Community Electricity Program, Direct Energy will be listed on your Eversource bill as your electricity supplier. View an example Eversource bill.

Electricity mix: The program’s electricity supplier is required to provide an energy mix disclosure label that offers details about all of the sources of electricity provided. Visit the Resources page to download the most recent label.

Please note:

  • Prices for both Standard Green and 100% Green Plus include a 0.2 ¢/kWh charge to support the development of a new solar energy project in Cambridge and a 0.075 ¢/kWh administration fee. Program prices apply only to the electricity supply portion of your Eversource electric bill. Program prices could increase as a result of a change in law that results in a direct, material increase in costs during the term of the electricity supply agreement. Delivery charges on your Eversource electric bill are not affected by the Cambridge Community Electricity Program.
  • Some large commercial accounts may not be eligible for program pricing at the time of enrollment and may instead be offered market pricing. Visit the FAQ page for more information.

In a green energy program already?

If you participate in a green energy program already where you pay an extra fee to increase the amount of renewable energy in your electricity, you can participate in both the green energy program and the Cambridge Community Electricity Program at the same time.

If you remain in the green energy program and:

  • Enroll in the Standard Green option in the Cambridge Community Electricity Program, you will get a little more than 100% of your renewable electricity needs met: 100% from your green energy program and a little more from the new Cambridge solar project. This is a combination that many people feel comfortable with.
  • Enroll in the 100% Green Plus option in the Cambridge Community Electricity Program, you may find that you are purchasing 200% of the renewable energy certificates that you need.
