Calculator

Use the calculator below to compare your electricity supply costs to those of National Grid’s Basic Service costs, as well as to quantify the environmental benefits of participating in the Standard Green and New England Green options in the Swampscott Community Power program.

Please note: Your electricity delivery costs (the cost to bring electricity to your home or business) are determined by National Grid and will not be affected by your participation in Swampscott Community Power.

To use the calculator, find your monthly electricity use on your National Grid bill and enter it into the box below (kWh).

(Enter the number of kWh you use in any given month)

Swampscott Community Power Costs and Benefits

Standard Green (default)
100% renewable electricity, primarily from outside New England
New England Green (option)
100% renewable electricity, all from within New England
Basic (option)
Only the minimum amount of renewable electricity required by state law
Program price ($/kWh) $0.11406 $0.13583 $0.10603
Monthly electricity supply charges ($/month)
If you participate in the program for one year, this will be your approximate greenhouse gas reduction over the course of that year:
Greenhouse gas emissions avoided in one year compared to National Grid's Basic Service (lbs/year)
This is the same as driving this many fewer miles in one year*

Compare to National Grid's Basic Service price

(the most recent 12-month average**)
Residential Commercial Industrial
12-month average National Grid price ($/kWh) $0.22691 $0.21329 $0.21265
Monthly electricity supply charges ($/month)

* This calculator calculates equivalencies using information provided by the EPA’s Greenhouse Gas Equivalencies Calculator. Greenhouse gas emissions avoided are calculating using the most recently available NEPOOL GIS emissions factor.

** Please note that the National Grid Basic Service price shown is the average of National Grid’s Basic Service prices for the past 12 months. Because National Grid’s fixed Basic Service prices change so frequently (every 6 months for residential and commercial accounts and every 3 months for industrial accounts), using an average price provides the most accurate comparison.

Savings cannot be guaranteed

Please note that, while Swampscott Community Power seeks to provide a price that is equal to or lower than National Grid’s average Basic Service price, there is no guarantee of savings compared with National Grid’s Basic Service price because future National Grid prices are unknown.
