Enroll in Bellingham Power Choice

New electricity customers in Bellingham will be AUTOMATICALLY enrolled within a few months of opening their electricity account, unless they choose to opt out. This automatic enrollment model is state law. If you will be automatically enrolled, no action is required.

You will receive a notification letter in the mail from the Town about the program prior to being automatically enrolled. The letter will include information about the program, options in the program, and prices, as well as information about how to opt out of the program if you do not wish to participate.

If you…

…are not currently enrolled, and you wish to participate

Please submit your enrollment information online or call customer support with Bellingham’s program consultants at 1-844-241-8595.

…have asked National Grid or Eversource to place a block on your account to prevent enrollment with electricity suppliers

The block will prevent automatic enrollment, even if you receive the notification letter. To participate in Bellingham Power Choice, you must first ask your electric utility, National Grid or Eversource, to remove the block. Once the block has been removed, you may then request enrollment in Bellingham Power Choice.

…sign a contract with an electricity supplier shortly after opening your electricity account

Your account will not be automatically enrolled, and you will not receive a notification letter. However, you may choose to enroll your account in Bellingham Power Choice by submitting your enrollment information online or by calling customer support with Bellingham’s program consultants at 1-844-241-8595.

Please note: We recommend that you carefully check the terms and conditions of your electricity supply contract. Your ability to terminate your contract with your supplier may be restricted. If you decide to enroll, be sure your current electricity supplier knows that you wish to cancel or not renew your contract with them.

…previously opted out and now wish to enroll

You may re-enroll, but please note that you may not receive the Bellingham Power Choice price. The electricity supplier is entitled to charge you a market price for the remainder of the current electricity supply contract, but you would receive the Bellingham Power Choice price for any future electricity supply contracts. If the program’s electricity supplier decides to charge market pricing, you will be notified before enrollment and can decide then whether to continue with enrollment or not.

…have a large commercial account

You are welcome to submit your large commercial account for enrollment, however you may be offered market pricing instead of program pricing when initially enrolling in the program. If your account is eligible for market pricing, you will be informed of the market price prior to being enrolled, and have the opportunity to accept it or reject it. If you enroll in the program at a market price, you will receive the program price under all future contracts if you remain in the program without interruption.
