Important program news:

June will bring a change in price and program structure for participants in Canton Electricity Choice. The program will transition from offering three options to a single option with a new price of 14.770 ¢/kWh for all participants. The new price will be fixed for 30 months from June 2026 – December 2028, providing two and a half years of stability. The program is changing from three options to one because of changes in the renewable energy landscape.

The new Canton Electricity Choice price provides savings when compared with Eversource’s current residential and small business prices of 15.629 ¢/kWh and 15.030 ¢/kWh, respectively, though savings beyond July 31, 2026, cannot be guaranteed.

No action is necessary for active Canton Electricity Choice participants. If you are currently enrolled in any Canton Electricity Choice option, you will automatically receive the new price in June, and you will see it on your July 2026 Eversource electric bill.

Canton Electricity Choice offers a stable, competitive price for the supply portion of your Eversource electric bill with the potential for savings compared with Eversource, though savings cannot be guaranteed. You remain eligible for any discounts you receive from Eversource:

  • If you are eligible for a low-income discount or fuel assistance, you continue to receive that benefit as a participant in Canton Electricity Choice.
  • If you have Eversource’s Budget Billing, it continues to apply to your total bill.

 

Compare

Canton Electricity Choice offers a long-term, fixed price, while Eversource’s prices change every six months or less.
Canton Electricity Choice participants do not sign a contract. Participants are free to leave at any time with no fee or penalty.

Canton Electricity Choice will no longer include options for purchasing additional electricity from renewable sources above the minimum required by state law. Under the new electricity supply contract, both Canton Electricity Choice and Eversource will meet the minimum state requirements for renewable energy. Visit the FAQ to learn more about this decision.

The Town of Canton remains committed to supporting renewable energy. We anticipate adding renewable energy back into Canton Electricity Choice in the future, as the renewable energy landscape continues to evolve.

Meets minimum Massachusetts renewable energy requirements

Massachusetts state law requires all electricity that is sold in the state to include a minimum amount from renewable sources.
All current Canton Electricity Choice options either meet or exceed this minimum requirement.
