Important program news:

Beginning in May, Wayland Electricity Choice will introduce a new price and a simplified program structure. The program will move from three options to one option for all participants. The supply price of 14.776 ¢/kWh is fixed for 25 months, from May 2026 until June 2028. The new price is lower than the current retail residential and small business electricity supply prices from Eversource. Since the program launched in May 2024, an average household has saved $284 through Wayland Electricity Choice compared with Eversource’s electricity supply price and program participants have saved more than $1.3 million. Future savings compared with Eversource are not guaranteed.

No action is needed if your account is currently enrolled in any Wayland Electricity Choice option. Your account will be automatically enrolled in the new price in May. The new price will appear on your June 2026 Eversource electric bill.

Wayland Electricity Choice offers a stable, competitive price for the supply portion of your Eversource electric bill with the potential for savings compared with Eversource, though savings cannot be guaranteed.

As a participant in Wayland Electricity Choice, you remain eligible for any discounts you receive from Eversource:

  • If you are eligible for a low-income discount or fuel assistance, you continue to receive that benefit as a participant in Wayland Electricity Choice.
  • If you have Eversource’s Budget Billing, it continues to apply to your total bill.

Compare

Wayland Electricity Choice offers a long-term, fixed price, while Eversource’s prices change every six months or less.
Wayland Electricity Choice participants do not sign a contract. Participants are free to leave at any time with no fee or penalty.

Wayland Electricity Choice will no longer include options for purchasing additional renewable electricity certificates (RECs) above the minimum required by state law. Under the new electricity supply contract, both Wayland Electricity Choice and Eversource will meet the minimum requirements for purchasing RECs. Visit the FAQ to learn more about this decision.

The Town of Wayland hopes this will be temporary and will continue to explore alternate and cost-effective ways that our aggregate electricity purchases can support new renewable power plants.

Meets minimum Massachusetts renewable energy requirements

Massachusetts state law requires all electricity that is sold in the state to include the purchase of a minimum number of RECs. All of the current Wayland Electricity Choice options meet or exceed this minimum requirement.
