Your options

Chelmsford Choice offers three Town-vetted electricity alternatives to National Grid’s Basic Service and to other electricity supply offers in the marketplace. As a new participant in Chelmsford Choice, you will be automatically enrolled in Chelmsford Choice Basic. If you would like more of your electricity from clean, renewable sources like the sun and wind, you can choose from two additional options:

  • The Chelmsford Choice Greener option provides a total of 62% of your electricity from new regional renewable energy resources (MA Class I RECs)
  • The Chelmsford Choice Greenest option provides 100% of your electricity from new regional renewable energy resources (MA Class I RECs)

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts requires that all electricity supply products include a minimum of 59% from renewable energy resources in 2023. Chelmsford Choice Basic meets the minimum requirement. Chelmsford Choice Greener and Chelmsford Choice Greenest exceed it.

Electricity supplier: If you participate in Chelmsford Choice, Dynegy will appear on your National Grid electric bill as your electricity supplier from December 2023 forward. (Previously, Constellation was the program’s electricity supplier.) View an example National Grid bill.

Electricity mix: The program’s electricity supplier is required to provide an energy mix disclosure label that offers details about all of the sources of electricity provided. Visit the Resources page to download the most recent label.

Compare prices: Use the tables below to compare Chelmsford Choice prices with National Grid’s current 6-month Basic Service price, or use the online calculator to compare with National Grid’s most recent 12-month average price.

* Prices include a $0.001/kWh administrative fee. Program prices could increase as a result of a change in law that results in a direct, material increase in costs during the term of the electricity supply agreement. Program prices apply only to the electricity supply portion of your National Grid electric bill. Delivery charges on your National Grid electric bill are not affected by participation in Chelmsford Choice. Some large commercial accounts may not be eligible for program pricing at the time of enrollment and may instead be offered market pricing. Visit the FAQ page for more information.

** Chelmsford Choice Greenest is a 100% MA Class I offering, which means it includes the minimum amount of MA Class I RECs required by law each year plus the additional amount needed to reach 100%. Chelmsford’s electricity supplier must also purchase other renewable energy from other clean or renewable sources to meet state requirements. As a result, the total of the renewable content for Chelmsford Choice Greenest exceeds 100%.
