Green Worcester Electricity Municipal Aggregation Program

Get premium green electricity at a fair, reliable price.

Important program news:

Green Worcester ElectriCITY Municipal Aggregation Program prices will decrease in December as the current electricity supply contract ends and a new, 24-month contract goes into effect, and all participants will see their prices reduce. In addition, the program will now include a new Worcester Basic Green option. The new prices for the Worcester Standard Green and Worcester Basic Green options are lower than National Grid’s current residential Basic Service price. Most participants are enrolled in the Worcester Standard Green option.

As a Worcester resident, you can opt to purchase your electricity supply through our Green Worcester ElectriCITY Municipal Aggregation Program. It’s like purchasing your electricity supply from a warehouse club—the City purchases New England-based renewable energy in bulk and passes on any potential savings to you.

All program prices are fixed and will not change for the contract term. However, since National Grid’s prices change every 6 months or less and future prices are unknown, savings can never be guaranteed. You may opt out of the program at any time, with no fee or penalty.

National Grid’s pricing beyond January 2026 is not yet set and will vary with the market. In contrast, prices for the Green Worcester ElectriCITY Municipal Aggregation Program are fixed and will not change until December 2027. See a detailed price comparison here.

Am I already in the program?

Check the Supply Services section of your recent National Grid bill. If “Green Worc ElectriCITY Aggregation Prog” is listed as your electricity supplier, you’re in the program. Once you’re in the program, no action is needed unless you choose to opt out.

How green is the electricity supply?

Worcester Standard Green is the default option, but you may choose Worcester 100% Green or choose Worcester Basic Green at any time. Whichever option you choose, the amount of electricity supply you receive from new renewable energy projects in the New England region will exceed the state minimum requirement. And we’ve done a thorough vetting process to ensure that the electricity supply meets our standards and comes from reliable sources. If you select the Worcester 100% Green option, all of your electricity supply will come from new renewable sources in the New England region.

What if I change my mind and want to go with another supplier?

No problem! You can opt out of the program at any time with no fee or penalty. You can also rejoin the Green Worcester ElectriCITY Municipal Aggregation Program at any time. Please note, however, that you may be eligible for a higher market price instead of the program price for the remainder of the current contract. If you are eligible for a market price, you will be notified and will have the opportunity to accept or reject that price before being enrolled.

If I participate, what stays the same?

You will remain a customer of National Grid because they are Worcester’s only electric utility. National Grid will continue to deliver your electricity, address power outages, and send your electric bill. You will not receive a separate bill from the Green Worcester ElectriCITY Municipal Aggregation Program.

So, why should I participate in the Green Worcester ElectriCITY Municipal Aggregation Program?

  • 47 to 100 percent of your electricity supply comes from guaranteed, vetted, new renewable energy sources in the New England region.
  • No surprises in your electric bill. All program prices are fixed and will not change for the contract term.
  • Opt out at any time with no fee or penalty.
